STAGE 1 / LESSON 4: WHAT CAN YOU SEE?
LESSON PLAN
VOCABULARY
1. Teach "look" by asking students “look at (the door).”
“Look at (the clock)”. “Look at (John).”
Exaggerate looking so students understand the word.
Teach "look up / look down".
(This verb is also practiced in the goodbye song "Look at the clock" which is available on Pink Level Songs).
2. Show the Song Flashcards and teach the vocabulary: "the sky, the sun, clouds, the moon, stars, a rainbow".
3. Show the Song Flashcards again and ask: "What can you see?" "A rainbow / I can see a rainbow."
You can reveal a small part of the flashcard behind a blank card for more fun, or show the card for a short time only.
SONG
Teach the song gestures, and then sing "The Sky Song" from Pink Level Songs.
From week 2, you can introduce "high / low" which also appears in the song.
You can place objects/flashcards in high/low places in the classroom.
You can also show worksheets 4/2, 4/3 or 4/4, which teaches these words.
WORKSHEETS
Use the worksheets to practice the language.
ACTIVITY
PICTURE DICTIONARY
A lot of picture dictionaries have items around the edges of the picture with the written words, and then a big picture which contains the item.
Point to the item at the edge, and ask “Can you see (a doll)?” Students search for it in the picture, and touch the item saying “here”.
Students can also practice asking the question. Students can compete to find the item first.
If you have a small class, you can do it all together. With larger class sizes give out several copies to share in small groups, or alone.
REVIEW
If you have time, review an activity from a previous lesson.
