Phrases: "Can you make a happy face?"

LESSON PLAN

LANGUAGE

1. Show Feelings flashcards happy, sad, sleepy, angry and elicit the words.
2. Practice the phrase “I’m (happy).”
3. Ask students “are you…?” Students can answer "yes/no".

After week 1, you can introduce more vocabulary (hot, cold, hungry, thirsty). Hot/cold appear in Topic 3, so this may be a review.

SONG

1. Teach the face parts (eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair, cheeks, teeth, face) by touching your own face and asking “what’s this / what are these?”
2. Ask students “can you make a (sleepy face)?” Mime holding a camera and taking a picture of their faces.
3. Sing the song. 

LESSON WORKSHEETS

Practice the lesson language with these worksheets. 

FLASHCARDS GAME

Prepare a selection of flashcards used in this lesson. Show the cards and check the vocabulary. Place the cards into a pack, face down.

1. The teacher takes one card and doesn’t show the other students.
2. Students take turns guessing which card the teacher has:

“Are you happy?” “No I’m not”
“Are you sleepy?” “Yes I am!”
Students can also take turns to select a card and answer the questions.

For more language practice, select one card, and place the other cards in front of the students one by one, saying “I’m not happy, I’m not sleepy, I’m not sad, I’m not hot, what am I?” Students answer “Are you angry?” “Yes I am!
