STAGE 1 / LESSON 10: WHAT DO YOU WANT?

LESSON PLAN

LANGUAGE

1. Hold up all the Toys flashcards, and teach “toys”.
2. Teach the vocabulary on each flashcard, especially spinning top, teddy bear and doll, which are in the song.
3. Ask students “Do you want a robot?” “Do you want a spinning top?” “Yes/No”.
4. Practice the phrase "I want a (robot)." Put your hands together and interlock your fingers to make a wanting gesture.

SONG

1. Show students the Christmas flashcard and elicit “Christmas tree”, “Merry Christmas” and "presents".
2. Speak the words of the song slowly, and teach the gestures. Use the flashcards to remind students of the words of the toys.
3. Sing the song.

LESSON WORKSHEETS

Practice the lesson language with these worksheets.

Puppet Activity

This is the same activity as Lesson 7, using "I want" rather than "I like". Download and print a selection of food flashcards online, e.g. https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/print-make/flashcards/food-flashcards

1. Place foods of different colours on the floor or a table, face down.
2. The students ask "What do you want?" The puppet says "I want (red) food."
3. Students must search for one card that matches the colour, bring it to the puppet and ask “Do you want (apples)?” If the puppet says yes, the student can say “here you go” and feed the puppet.

Make sure there are more than enough cards for students in the categories that you select.

You can also try this with hot/cold foods, or fruit/vegetables, if students are familiar with these words.
