LESSON PLAN
Vocabulary
Stick the presents from the Christmas Flashcards together with sellotape, to give the appearance of opening a present (see picture). You can also stick these to the walls, if you want to practice “where is the (red) present?”
1. Say “Look. A red present.”
2. Ask students “what is inside?”
3. Encourage students to say “open / open the present.”
4. Open the present and teach the vocabulary. “It’s a bear!”
5. Repeat for the other presents.

Song
1. Preteach the gestures for the song, while speaking the words.
2. Sing the song with the students.
3. During the instrumental, pretend to open a present. Say “Here is a present" (mime a box). "Can you open the present?" (mime opening the present).
"What is it?"
"It’s a (bear)!” (hold the present up)
LESSON WORKSHEETS

ACTIVITY
Repeat an activity from a previous lesson, such as the animal finger puppets from Lesson 8:
You can buy animal finger puppets easily on the internet. Teach the names of a selection of the puppets before you hand them out to the students.
1. Say “where is the rabbit?” Students look around for the rabbit. The student who has the rabbit holds it up and everyone says “hello rabbit”. Repeat for all the animals.
2. Call out some actions.
“Animals up”.
“Animals down.”
“Bye bye”. Put the fingerpuppet behind your back.
“Hello”. Bring the fingerpuppet back.
“Animals on your… head. Animals on your…knee”. Repeat for several body parts (head, ear, shoulder, tummy, leg, knee, foot).
3. More actions. Use the phrase “Can you…”
“Can you dance?”
“Can you jump?”
“Can you run?”
4. Ask animals “how are you?” Teacher models this with their own finger puppet.
a) Face the puppet and say “how are you” to the puppet, while tapping it on the nose.
b) Have students do the same. Teacher’s puppet answers “I’m hungry.”
c) Teacher says “Oh! Are you hungry? Here you go!”
d) Teacher holds out hand and puppet eats from it. Students do the same.
e) OR, puppet answers “I’m sleepy”. Teacher says “the animals are sleepy!”
Put the animals on the floor, and stroke them as they go to sleep. You can sing a lullaby. After a minute or so, say “it’s time to wake up!” Have the students shout “wake up”. Puppets wake up!
